The Helpful Car-Stripper
A rash of car strippings in New
York City inspired this legend. One night before
Christmas, as a man was driving home from a shopping
mall, his car broke down on the Long Island Expressway
on the outskirts of Queens. Cursing, he pulled over to
the shoulder of the highway, climbed out of the car and
popped open the hood. A moment later, another car pulled
up behind him.
"Mind if I give you a hand?" the
"That'd be great," said the
stranded motorist. "Thanks."
But rather than inspect the engine
with the motorist, the good Samaritan walked to the back
of the car. Like an expert, he jimmied open the trunk
where he saw bags of merchandise from the motorist's
holiday shopping spree.
So he yelled to the driver,
"Here's the deal, buddy. You keep everything you can get
out of the front, but the back of the car is mine."
