Mutilated Cattle

In 1973 a Kansas cattle rancher discovered a dozen of his cows dead and grotesquely mutilated. All the blood had been drained from their bodies. Their hearts, lungs, kidneys and reproductive organs had been surgically removed. Perhaps strangest of all, scavengers such as coyotes and buzzards had not touched the corpses.

The rancher called the local police, who notified the FBI. An investigation of the site found unusually high radiation levels around the dead cattle. The evidence of clamp marks on the animals' rear legs suggested that the cattle had been taken someplace where they had been suspended by their hind legs and mutilated before their bodies were dumped back in the pasture.

Some ranchers thought a crazy hippie cult or devil worshippers were to blame. But as the wave of cattle mutilations spread across the West, other evidence began to emerge. Witnesses saw UFOs or strange unmarked black helicopters hovering over herds.

Since that first incident, 10,000 head of cattle have been mutilated. To this day, no one knows who has been carving up the cows or their motivations.

Variation: One theory holds that "mad cow disease" was brought to Earth by aliens. After vivisecting cattle, they learned how best to infect the cows and, in turn, humans.
