Mensa
Organization Lowers Membership Standards
Mensa, the international organization that brings
together the smartest people in the world, made a
startling decision this week. They will begin accepting
members who rank in the 97th percentile for IQ within
the general population. In the past, only the top 2%
were permitted to join this exclusive association. What
difference will this extra 1 percent will make?
According to regional coordinator Harris Montrose, it
may keep the Mensa society afloat. “We have just 100,000
members worldwide. If we don’t start pumping these
numbers up, brilliant individuals like me may eventually
go the way of the dodo.”
Supporters claim this has nothing to do with engineering
a superior class of human, but the Mensa website does
make a point of mentioning the “many marriages” among
its members. Unfortunately, most of these people are far
too bright to place a strain on their relationships by
bringing a baby into the equation.
As member Sylvia Zirkowsky points out, “The evidence is
incontrovertible. A happy marriage isn’t improved by
adding a sprog to the mix.”
Village
Idiots now able to join Mensa

Overall, Mensans aren’t pleased with the inclusion of
lesser geniuses in their organization. As one dissenter
put it “Talking to anyone who has an intelligence
quotient under 150 bores me to the point of catatonia.”
According to reports, local Mensa IQ testing offices
have been flooded with requests from marginally gifted
hopefuls.
