DOG AND PARROT MATE, TWO OF THE
PUPPIES ARE STARTING TO MIMIC HUMAN SPEECH
Alexander Moses Smyth and Kathleen Angelica Smyth, two
pets in the same household, have mated, much to the
astonishment of their owner, Sandra Smyth of New
Hampshire. “I can’t believe it,” said Ms. Smyth when
interviewed. “I just can’t believe it. I never in my
wildest dreams imagined anything like this occurring.”
While on the surface, this may not seem as unusual as
Ms. Smyth seems to consider it, when one has the whole
story and realizes that Alexander Moses is a Senegal
parrot and Kathleen Angelica a toy poodle, the story
takes on a completely different significance.
“To say I was surprised when I realized that Kathleen
was pregnant is putting it mildly,” said Ms. Smyth. “I
thought I was sure that she hadn’t gotten out of the
house during the time frame necessary nor had she had
any visitors, yet as she kept getting larger and larger,
there was no doubt as to her condition. I took her to
the local vet, thinking that she might possibly have a
tumor of sort and he confirmed what I already believed
to be the case.”
A picture of the proud parents

“I just figured that Ms. Smyth hadn’t been as careful as
she had thought she had been,” said veterinarian Ralph
Batta, when later interviewed. “It happens all the time.
Pet owners think that they have been so careful but
animals can be so sneaky when it comes to that time in
their lives.” Dr. Batta hesitated for a moment, then
continued. “Yet the more I looked at the x-rays, the
more I began to wonder, there was just something strange
there, especially about one of the puppies. Now that
they have been born I can understand why. One of them is
a perfect combination of both parents, with the front
end looking like a Senegal parrot and the back end
looking like a toy poodle. Another has a striped
appearance, with a row of feathers, then a row of fur,
repeating itself along the body. Alexander Jr. is the
spitting image of his father while the last two look
exactly like Kathleen Angelica. No one would have
suspected anything unusual about the last three were it
not for their litter mates. And of course for the fact
that a dog doesn’t usually give birth to a bird,” he
added, taking into consideration that Alexander Jr. and
Spot and Teddy were all three part of the same litter.
“Before they were born, I considered the possibility of
some sort of immaculate conception or something of that
sort,” said Ms. Smyth. “After all, we know there are
angel fish so why not angel dogs, but after they were
born, there was no doubt as to who the father was.
Alexander Moses strutted around, acting more like a
proud peacock than a Senegal parrot. I found him handing
out peanuts to other birds; much like a human father
would hand out cigars.”
All five babies seem to be thriving and completely
healthy. Spot and Teddy are reported to be beginning to
mimic human speech.
