PARROT LEAVES HOME TO SEEK FAME
AND FORTUNE AS POLITICIAN
Could this be our next
president?
“I do love my mistress of course,” chirped Hannah Joy.
“And I’m sure I’ll experience homesickness to some
degree, but I’m eighteen years old now, it’s time I was
on my own, my own boss. Mistress treats me like some
kind of a pet, rather than her mental equal.” Hannah
fluffed out her feathers as she spoke, showing off to
her best advantage the beautiful green of her plumage.
“She loves me, I’m sure of that, but she wants to keep
me locked in, you know, painting within the lines so to
speak, and I want to experience life outside the cage.”

“I’ve thought of sometime of taking up a career of some
sort in politics. After all, if donkeys and elephants
can do it, why not parrots? Those who know me best will
tell you I’m as stubborn as any jackass around and I
have an excellent memory, equal to that of any elephant.
I also am well known for speaking up for myself and for
speaking up and repeating what others have said also. I
believe that if someone says something that makes good
sense, it bears repeating. Elephants are known for just
blowing their own trumpets, never mind any body else’s
thoughts and donkeys are always kicking up a fuss about
something.”
Hannah Joy rocked back and forth as she spoke, perched
securely on one of the microphones which the local press
had so kindly provided for her.
“I know a lot about bills and I think politics would be
the perfect career for me. I could really put the bite
on some of those politicians who are just out there to
feather their own nests. Some of my future constituents
have assured me and others also that once I get my claws
into some of these policies I’ll have them soaring. I
know I’ll have to start at the bottom of the ladder so
to speak, but I’m an excellent climber and I anticipate
that it won’t be long before I’m over the top.” Hannah
Joy stopped for a moment to preen her feathers,
obviously wanting to look her best for the media people.
“As for the paper work involved in politics, well, I’m
well known for knowing just what to do with papers,” she
continued. She was surrounded by a number of other birds
from various species who flocked around her as she
spoke, all of them known to be groupies. Most of them
were wearing “I’m for the bird” buttons or carrying “I’m
for the bird” posters, all of which were bearing
pictures of Hannah Joy in full fettle.

notes

“I don’t know where my career is headed,” continued
Hannah Joy. “It may take a bit of time to get off the
ground, but I promise you all right now that I’m going
to do my best to fly with this career choice. I have put
aside a bit of seed money over the years and I’ll do my
best not to lay any eggs, especially ones with rotten
yokes.”
