Story Lady by Dave Tanguay

There’s a very special lady, a person that I know
Who tells a funny story wherever she may go
She speaks to you so softly with a smile upon her lips
As she relates to you a tale, not a word of it she skips
She speaks to you of ministers of maidens and of men
Who made a few mistakes with their words now and then
Her stories are told with wit and with such charm
You know as a listener they really mean no harm
‘Tis a very special lady this person that I know
Who tells a funny story wherever she may go

Appearing tpo be sad by Gershon Hepner

Writing plays appearing to be sad
for people who are humorous, Anton
prevents us all from forming our foregone
conclusions about what is good or bad.
Because they both are linked, you have to laugh
both at what’s funny and what’s sad, he found,
for crying will not help you hear the sound
that splits the sides of sadness into half.

Hilton Als reviews a production of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull” in The New Yorker, March 24,2008 (Servants of Art”) , and quotes Nabokov, who observed in 1981 that Chekhov wrote sad books for humorous people. Things for him were funny and sad at the same time, but you would not see their sadness if you did not see their fun, because both were linked up.”

A funny thing by Phillip Robertson

Life’s funny you know
Why we do this
Why we do that
But at the end of the day
We get the same result
It’s full of laughs
Full of trills and chills
Romance and action
Horror and comedy
Life’s full of surprises
That come at you so suddenly
Like a tidal wave
Sweeping you off your feet
The question is
Is it always that funny?
