The Turkey by Brandon Bosse

Once upon a midnight dreary,
While I was fast asleep in my library,
I was awakened suddenly by a tapping beneath the floor.
I scurried down the stairs in three seconds or maybe four.
I stopped and stood there a second to listen.
The rapping, tapping came from my kitchen.
I crept into the kitchen as to not creak the floor.
The knocking ' came from the refrigerator,
Only this and nothing more.

Ah, distinctly I do remember,
It was in that late November.
It was nearly Thanksgiving, just a day before.
The whole family was coming, even Uncle Taylor.
I looked at the refrigerator and began to wonder
What was that knocking getting as loud as thunder?
It sounded as though it came from inside the refrigerator.
Maybe, I thought, it is only the motor,
Maybe that and nothing more.

I decided to peer into the fridge to see
If there was anything to eat, for I was getting hungry.
I slowly walked over to the refrigerator
And ever so carefully opened the squeaky door.
The darkness was so great there wasn't a thing to see.
Then - slowly flickering - the light came on and there was a fat, featherless turkey smiling at me.
Then, in a big flutter, he flapped and squawked and out he did soar.
He circled the room then flew out the kitchen door.
Then perched and sat and nothing more.

Then to my amazement he opened his beak!
And miraculously he started to speak,
'For many a year, about ten score,
Humans have been eating my kind, but not any more.
This year is different, very different you see.
This year I will eat you not you eat me!!'
And with that he flapped and flapped and up he did soar.
Then with lightning speed, he knocked me to the floor.
And my family saw me ' nevermore.

Mask by Nicole Luis

I hold my mask to my face
which is a task
I show what I want people to see
I doubt they know thats not me
I pretend to be happy and make funny jokes
but, that's just a mask everyone sees.

They don't see that I scream
to be free
They'll never know I cry at night
because I give up the fight.
All they'll see is a mask
not me.

Sensitivity by David Taylor

Feet elongated past his toes
Funny spherical and red his nose
A flower bright pinned on his coat
Which perhaps squirts water
And makes you soaked
A joke not funny he can tell
A car with parts that fall to the ground
And a loud horn to loudly shout
Get out the way I’m coming round
A painted face most sad
With downcast mouth and ring’ed eyes
That strangely sadness does not disguise
An icon of mirth and fame not wide
Who is he and what does he hide?
A clown you say? Maybe you’re right
Or perhaps he is more close to you
And not so very far from sight?

Hope? by Matthew Winter

Is a funny word
It makes you think every time its heard
It can make you happy, it can make you sad
Most of all it can make you glad
Is a funny thing
It can make you laugh, it can make you sing
Sometimes hope can make you cry
It can also make you wonder.... why?
