You have two egg-timers.

One is a four-minute timer and one a seven-minute timer.

How do you measure nine minutes?

Answer to the riddle . . . .

The answer is:

You run the 4-minute one three times in a row, one right after the other (12 minutes).

You run the 7-minute at the same time, twice (14 minutes).

When the 4-minute goes off the third time, you know there's two minutes left on the 7-minute one. let it run down, then set the 7-minute timer one more time, for a total of 9 minutes.
