Meaning : A punishment, especially military, that involves a naked man running between other men whipping him from either side. It is unknown whether the men doing the whipping are naked, but odds are better than even on it.

Example : Before enlisting Alex knew the penalties for breaking military rules were stricter than civilian laws; still having to run the gantlope seemed a little harsh for stealing a Hershey's Kiss.
